In this video the dialogue is about mending broken relationships. Oprah and Dr Elisabeth Lesser are discussing effective ways to repair the hurt inflicted by words or actions on individuals by a person. They are telling about the importance of active listening in which we closely listen to the other person, reflect on what is said, absorb the meaning of each word clearly and then echo back what was said so there is a bonding between the two individuals, the person who hurt and the person who was hurt. Clarity in conversation is also emphasized upon. A message which is clear is simple and fluid and conveys what complex messages cannot do as they evoke ambiguity in the receptive person.
They also give a reason that we should be careful with individuals who harm themselves and they might harm you in the same way like the parable of a naked person who offers another person a shirt. This tells us that first we should love ourselves first than start loving others and we should help ourselves first before offering or providing help to others
