It’s not easy to accept “dis-ease” or “codependency” as a disease. People usually face this problem, when they try to help a person who even doesn’t need it. They think that they know better about the problem than the person him/her self and thus they try to control others. There is an other video on the same topic titled as codependency in Relationship. There are two main reasons behind this sort of attitude or behavior: i) genetics ii) history and traditions. Co dependency is not a mental illness rather it is a learned behavior. Symptoms include i) obsession about something that is totally unrelated, leading to low grade depression ii) Extending help to others but they continuously reject accepting it iii) we feel hurt or resentful iv) feeling depressed more in. There is little difference between depression and codependency. In depression, there is rapid change in neurotransmitter, while codependency is linked to our behavior of controlling a person who is suffering from a disease in which chances of progression are low. Solution of the problem is to change the mind set. When you have to help a person who is not willing to take help, first you need to learn how to help him and for that you need to use your emotional intelligence in more effective ways.
