Human race has been helping each other since ages. But times have changed. Unlike previously, problems have become more complicated. These complicated problems have made it difficult for people to help each other.

While helping one another, we should remember that help too has its principles. Short term problems ask for short term help and vice versa. Short term help in long term pain can create misunderstanding. Wanting to help and capacity to help are two different things. Keeping them apart with balance is important. While helping the other person, instead of taking all the responsibility on one’s head, it is important to teach problem solving skills to that person as well.

An unwanted or uninvited help is often responded with frivolity. When it comes to helping, there are fine lines which should never be crossed. One should not extend help until it is asked for.  Validation helps us in clearly defining those boundaries. Validation is endorsing and acknowledging the other person’s problem. Putting oneself in the other person’s position and feeling the pain makes way for a good validation.

Always remember and respect this rule, if helping you is hurting me, it is not helping, it is hurting.
