butnIn this video Dr. Sadaqat Ali explains about Addiction. Dr. Sadaqat Ali is a renowned addiction psychiatrist and project director of Willing Ways Pakistan.

Life is changing at an unpredictable pace. This rapidly changing life has given rise to additional stress and tension. People, including men/women, resort to drug use, considering it a short cut. The drugs being used by teenagers to adults, from men to women belong to the 4 classes; uppers, downers, pain killers, and mindbenders.

The most common drugs being used in our society include marijuana and alcohol. The use of common drugs has a tendency to shift to much stronger drugs like heroin and crystal meth. Some of the basic factors that indicate the onset of addiction include dysfunctional life. A person doesn’t have any priorities in life. His/her only obsession is drug use. As a result, he/she not only fails to fulfill commitments, but also fails to perform routine tasks.

Majority of addicts don’t like to be treated. Willing Ways Pakistan has been providing this platform for re-establishing sobriety since 1979. There is a variety of options of treatment, including indoor and outdoor treatment along with the family counseling.

Being a chronic disease, addiction needs an ongoing and lasting treatment. It revolves around mood/stress management, becoming more responsible, and disciplined. To support recovery, families should be firm, honest, and avoid enabling the addict.

Addiction is considered as one the major problems in Pakistan for which there are very few proper treatment centers available in Pakistan. Willing ways and Sadaqat clinic both treat the patients scientifically designed to meet the needs for the treatment of this disease. Addiction is a condition in which a person develops bio-psycho-social dependence on any mood altering substance. There are two types of addictions, chemical and non-chemical addiction. Chemical addiction includes the dependence on substance like heroin, cocaine, alcohol and other related chemicals. On the other hand non chemical addiction includes dependence on any substance like food, internet, gambling etc.

Patient suffering from this disease are usually self centered and require proper help from the professionals. People usually start taking the drugs because of curiosity and especially parties are risky places where people usually start the use of the drugs. Families treat such patients by either enabling them or with disrespect. People suffering from the disease have no control over their problem and hence be handled with respect. Parents are encouraged to meet the needs of the children who are in addiction but should not fulfill their wants. In order to bring the patients into the treatment proper intervention programs are designed. A positive note about the disease is that with the help of proper assistance from qualified professionals this disease is manageable and people can live a drug free life.

Dr. Sadaqat Ali talks about feeling of being unwanted

butnThis video of Dr. Sadaqat Ali contains information on “feeling of being unwanted”. There is another video of Dr Sadaqat Ali on the same topic Dr. Sadaqat Ali Talks about Home Runaway. Dr Sadaqat Ali is a renowned addiction psychiatrist and project director of Willing Ways Pakistan.

Usually girls have more feelings of being unwanted then boys. One of the reasons can be that in many societies, girls are considered lesser then boys since the time she opens her eyes in this world. A girl growing up with this mental state and then marital issues and relationship problems act as additional fuel, produces feelings of being unwanted. Parents do educate their girls but after completion of studies, they tell them that they are not productive and they should only do household chores. There are few things need to be done to get out of this issue. We have to leave the antique thinking, e.g. thinking women as inferior to men and we need to be open minded.

Every human possess different biology. Some handles thing pretty well while some heats up so quickly and they want to run away from family that they think are overlooking them. A child needs to consult any kind family member or loyal friend rather than running away from home. When we meet people outside, they are generally masking. An adult needs to identify before giving them priority over their parents. They should express their anger verbally in assertive manner instead of running away and continue to feel being unwanted.

Dr. Sadaqat Ali talks about domestic violence and abuse against women

There is another video of Dr Sadaqat Ali on the same topic titled Dr. Sadaqat Ali talks about Women Rights. Dr. Sadaqat Ali is a renowned addiction psychiatrist and project director of Willing Ways Pakistan.

After a traumatic and extremely disturbing experience of domestic violence, one’s trust from humanity disappears. You may feel like you cannot be safe or trust anyone especially when the abuse is received from people nearest to you be it your husband, uncle, etc. You begin to fear your own shadow. These individuals therefore do not even try to seek help from elsewhere. The external injuries and hurt are not the only wounds that need healing. Inner wounds are much more deep and in excruciating pain. Attitudinal healing therapy is being practiced all over the world. In Pakistan, a woman has perceives a man as her knight in shining armor who would serve as her protector and guardian. Throughout childhood, girls have been told these fairytales resulting in such beliefs being embedded into them through society. For women of domestic abuse especially acid burn victims, psychological treatment falls into first priority. Plastic surgeries only treat the outer wounds but the grief and agonizing loss inside the woman remain. The distortion of the self-image needs mending. Counseling plays a crucial role when blaming the self and “why me?” questions arise. The concept of ‘letting go’ is brought to light. They are taught to leave the past, let go and move on to the next chapter of their life.

Dr. Sadaqat Ali talks about what is toxicity?

There is another video of Dr. Sadaqat Ali on the same topic titled “ Dr. Sadaqat Ali talks about Alcoholism in Pakistan”. Dr. Sadaqat Ali is a renowned addiction psychiatrist and project director of Willing Ways Pakistan.

When individuals drink alcohol or use drugs, people call them intoxicated or stoned because they intake toxic chemicals. Another form is that body itself creates toxicity which involves various physiological chemicals. Our responses highly rely on the right quantity of these chemicals. Increased amount of such chemicals in our body is termed as toxicity such as cholesterol, if its amount exceeds the certain level it will act as a toxin. Similarly, high level of glucose in blood stream becomes toxic. But human body also has the capacity to heal this toxicity. For example, during intense exercise our body produces lactic acid but with appropriate rest this chemicals converts into pyruvic acid. Whether lactic acid is toxin but pyruvic acid is healthy.

So there is a need to understand our physiology. If anyone is not taking appropriate sleep, toxins will jump in. If anyone is tolerating hunger, toxins will be produced. Human life is highly associated with such chemicals, even our feelings. The feeling of love is also associated with a physiological chemical, known as oxytocin. In comparison to men, oxytocin is highly produced in women. That is why love is the domain of women, although men can learn to love through behaviors. So, we can learn to schedule our breakfast, lunch and dinner before our empty stomach produces toxins to cause feeling of hunger. Important is to promote such learned behaviors for healthy lifestyle.

In this video Dr. Sadaqat Ali extensively talks about the disease of Alcoholism. There is another video of Dr Sadaqat Ali on the same topic titled “Alcoholism in Pakistan“. Dr. Sadaqat Ali is a renowned addiction psychiatrist and project director of Willing Ways Pakistan.

Around the world there are so many alcoholics and addicts’ families who suffer because of their loved one’s addiction. To begin with the patient is not willing for addiction treatment and thus the family comes into training. The training is called ‘structured intervention training’ based on approximately 15 sessions in which the family develops the skills of how to convince their loved one take help in the form of getting into treatment.  When someone falls prey to the primary disease of alcoholism later it gets accompanied by liver problem.  Usually doctors recommend patient to start taking less alcohol but unfortunately the alcoholic never acknowledges the real issue and always replies with the denial statement of ‘I am already consuming less’. If you want to help someone quit drinking then the major area that needs most of the work is the paradigm shift. 10% people fall prey to this disease when the body is not able to process alcohol properly and hence toxins start producing in. You can never predict either who will fall in 10% or otherwise 90%. The disease of alcoholism cannot be managed through short term solution rather it requires long term skills and strategies, and those could be learned through the help of a professionals.
