The video is about the secret of self – control. Dr Jonathan B Bricker earned his PhD degree in Clinical Psychology from university of Washington. He is a scientist who specializes in the process of testing and developing skills for self – control of addictions and anxiety. He is a full member at the Fred Hutchinson cancer Research Centre and an affiliate professor at the University of Washington, Psychology department. He is also an editor of a scientific journal called ‘Addiction’ which is the best of its type when it comes to addictions.

In this video Dr Jonathan starts with sharing how his mother at the age of 42 (When he was born) for the first time started doing exercise. She started with running around the block, then started going for 5K races, then 10K races, ran a marathon & then a triathlon and by at the age of 57 she was tracking at the Mount Everest base camp. On the other end his dad was used to take him to the science classes. Later he shares that he learnt about the value of health from his mother whereas learnt the value of science from his dad. These 2 proved to guide him through his life making him successful. He pin points that these 2 values helped him deal with an epidemic called unhealthy life. Later he highlights the fact that tobacco and obesity are two most preventable causes of premature death. He shares that solving such issues might be difficult as we engage in unhealthy behaviors involves genes, environment, brain neurotransmitters and many alike factors. But there is one key factor about how we can manage our cravings which leads to addictive behaviours like smoking and over eating. Well that key factor is our “Choices” our willingness. Lastly he shares the secret to self control is to give up control.
